Mizuno Wedges News, Advide and Buyers Guide
In designing a wedge, the biggest challenge currently facing golf club makers is how to address the player's desire to stop the ball and the new golf rule that inhibits the club maker from doing what the player wants. With the help of the industry's top players, Mizuno Golf has stepped up to the challenge by re-examining the wedge to look for ways of helping the player without violating the rule.
The result is the Quad Cut Groove - but they didn't stop there. Mizuno has completely re-engineered the wedge to come up with a new line of wedges that complements their popular MP-R12™ wedge series.
With the launching of the MP-T4™ series, Mizuno now has 3 family of wedges to satisfy the player's quest for performance: the Mizuno JPX Wedge, the Mizuno MP-R12™, and now, the new Mizuno MP-T4™ Wedge.
Sporting the new Quad Cut Groove that is designed specifically for each wedge that will maximize friction and yet conform to the latest regulations, the MP-R12 wedge series also has the sole-specific geometry to match. While the Mizuno-designed Quad Cut Groove is specific to a particular loft setting, the MP-R12's sole also changes with it. When the wedges loft becomes higher than 54°, the grooves on the MP-R12 becomes wider and shallower.
At the same time, the C-grind on the sole becomes more prominent. The change in the sole allows the club to sit lower on the ground near the heel or the toe, avoiding the tendency for the player to blade the ball when hitting a lob. The C-grind, along with club's tour-proven round shape and geometric design allows it to pass through the turf and even go through thick grass with ease.
These innovations on the MP-R12 wedge make it the best performing club in its class.
The JPX Wedge series is designed as a to supplement the popular Mizuno JPX iron set. Its cavity back design is ideal for the middle and high handicap players who required balance, control and maximum forgiveness from their golf clubs. The JPX wedge series delivers all that and more.
With the new Quad Cut Groove for conformity, a CNC milled design on the clubface for traction, a triple-grind sole design for versatility, perimeter weighting for balance and control, along with a double nickel chrome finish that matches the JPX iron set; the JPX wedge is the JPX wielder's fairy tale dream come true.
The new Mizuno MP-T4 wedge series complements the MP-R12 wedge series. Designed specifically for golfers who prefer bounce over cutting, the MP-T4 wedge sports the teardrop shape with a straight and wider sole that allows the club to bounce off the turf without snagging or "sticking" to the ground. With the Quad Cut Groove and CNC-milled design, the MP-R12 features a wide sole with "aggressive" heel and toe relief design that makes it easier to bounce the club off the ground and still cut into it when required. This allows the player to get under the ball for a smoother flowing swing under all sorts of conditions.
Highly recommended for use where the ground is soft or when a steep angle of attack is required, the MP-T4 is the wedge worth having in the bag.
