Which Powakaddy CT8 Should You Buy? A Complete 2026 Comparison
Quick Verdict on the Powakaddy CT8
The Powakaddy CT8 is the flagship of the CT range. Every model comes with a stunning 3.5-inch full colour touchscreen, a fully integrated GPS loaded with over 40,000 courses, and the world’s smallest Simple-2-Fold chassis.
Choosing the right CT8 comes down to two simple decisions: how many holes you play between charges, and whether you want the Electronic Braking System (EBS) for downhill control.
Prices start at £939 for the CT8 GPS 18 Hole and rise to £1039 for the CT8 GPS EBS 36 Hole. Every CT8 shares the same ultra-compact frame, whisper-quiet 30V motor, MAG-LOK bag attachment, PCAP touchscreen, drop-pin technology, Bluetooth app connectivity, and soft-touch, height-adjustable handle.
The differences that matter are the battery capacity and the optional braking system.
Every Powakaddy CT8 sold by The Golf Shop Online is covered by our 60-Day Returns Policy and backed by PGA professional Mark Crossfield and our expert team. If you are unsure which CT8 is right for you, this guide walks you through every version in plain English.

Why the Powakaddy CT8 is the Flagship You Want
Powakaddy have been building electric golf trolleys in the UK for decades. The CT range sits right at the top of their compact lineup, and the Powakaddy CT8 is the flagship. It takes everything the smaller CT6 does well and adds more.
It adds a bigger, brighter touchscreen, a fully integrated GPS, and smart connectivity features that most golfers only ever dream of having on a trolley.
In short, the CT8 is a golf caddy and a GPS unit in one. It folds to the size of a small piece of luggage. It rolls up hills without complaint. It knows every course you play. And it holds your bag more securely than anything else on the market, thanks to the MAG-LOK system.
Mark Crossfield and our team of PGA professionals have spent time with every Powakaddy trolley in the current lineup.
As Mark explains in his walkthrough of the CT range, the CT8 is aimed at golfers who want “much more of the modern-day features available by connecting it to a smart device.” That is what sets this trolley apart from the CT6 and from almost every other electric trolley in the price bracket.
This buying guide is aimed at avid golfers who are ready to invest in a proper flagship trolley and who want to understand exactly which version of the Powakaddy CT8 range fits their golf.
We will walk through each model, compare them side by side, explain the differences between the battery and EBS, and finish with a clear decision tree so you can make a confident pick.
Mark Crossfield’s CT Range Overview: “In the Powakaddy CT8, you get a 3.5 full colour screen, so a slightly bigger screen. GPS is integrated into that device, so it’s there and ready to go.
You also can drop pin placement so you can drop where the Pin is to get those precise distances from the GPS, and it’s got 40,000 pre-loaded golf courses on there.”
Mark’s point lands cleanly. On the Powakaddy CT8, you do not choose or pay extra for GPS. It is built in, pre-loaded, and ready to use the moment you switch it on.
What Every Powakaddy CT8 Has in Common
Before we compare the individual models, it helps to understand what you get as standard on every Powakaddy CT8. These shared features are what make the CT8 the most complete flagship trolley on the market.
Simple-2-Fold Chassis
Folds 20% smaller than the old Compact C2i and around 35% smaller than its nearest competitor. Two quick movements and it is in the boot.
3.5 Inch PCAP Touchscreen
Full colour widescreen display that works with a gloved hand. Clear and sharp in bright sun or drizzle.
Integrated GPS
Over 40,000 courses pre-loaded. Auto course detection, auto hole advance, front, centre and back distances. No subscription, no fees.
Active Green View
The green shape updates in real time as you play around the hole, with a directional approach arrow showing the line in.
Drop Pin Technology
Tap the screen to drop a pin where the flag is and get a precise yardage to the actual Pin, not just the middle of the green.
Bluetooth App Connection
Pairs with iOS and Android. Update courses, sync new content, and use the game-tracking feature to log your rounds.
MAG-LOK Bag Attachment
Magnetic, tool-free bag lock. Your bag clicks in firmly and will not rattle loose, even on rough ground.

High-power 30V 230W speed controller delivers smooth acceleration, better hill control, and near-silent running.
ADF Distance Function
Set a distance between 10 and 60 yards, and the trolley sets off without you. Perfect for sending it up to the next tee.
USB-C Charging Port
Modern USB-C port on the handle lets you top up a phone or rangefinder mid-round.
Height Adjustable Handle
Soft-touch ergonomic handle that adjusts for golfers of any height, with built-in controls for speed and screen.

Powakaddy CT8 GPS 18 Hole Lithium

Design Philosophy
The Powakaddy CT8 GPS 18 Hole Lithium is the entry point into the CT8 range. It is the trolley for the standard 18-hole round, powered by a compact 220 WH lithium battery. Do not let the word “entry” mislead you. This is still a full-fat flagship with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, integrated GPS, and a Simple-2-Fold chassis.
If you play eighteen holes and rarely do more in a single day, this is the version most golfers will choose. The 18-hole battery is noticeably lighter than the 36-hole pack, which keeps the total trolley weight down and makes lifting the folded unit in and out of the boot even easier.
Key Features at a Glance
- 3.5-inch colour touchscreen with PCAP glove-friendly response
- Integrated GPS with 40,000+ courses pre-loaded, no subscription
- 18-hole lithium battery (220WH, 1.8kg) with Plug and Play fitment
- Active Green View and directional approach arrow
- Drop Pin Technology for precise flag distances
- Bluetooth Connected App for iOS and Android
- Scorecard feature with stroke index and par for men and ladies
- ADF Automatic Distance Function
- USB-C handle charging port
- Simple-2-Fold ultra compact frame
Specifications
- Price: £939
- Trolley Weight: 9.9kg (without battery)
- Battery: 18 Hole 30V Plug and Play Lithium, 220WH, 1.8kg
- Folded Size: H 510mm x W 425mm x D 375mm
- Motor: 30v 230w
- Screen: 3.5-inch PCAP colour touchscreen
- EBS: Not fitted (see EBS models below)
Strengths
- Flagship features at the lowest CT8 price
- A lighter battery makes the total package easier to lift
- Full GPS built in with Active Green View and Drop Pin
- Simple-2-Fold is genuinely boot-friendly
- Bluetooth app lets you update courses at home
- Powakaddy reliability with up to a 5-year battery warranty
Considerations
- No EBS, so the trolley will not self-brake on steep downhills
- 18-hole battery only, so longer days need a second battery or a swap
- Not a push trolley if you prefer manual on cheaper days
- Premium price point versus the CT6 range
Who Should Buy the Callaway CT8 GPS 18-Hole?
- The golfer who plays eighteen holes on flat to gently rolling courses
- Anyone who wants a flagship trolley but does not need downhill braking
- Golfers moving up from an older Powakaddy compact and wanting a bigger screen and built-in GPS
- Drivers with smaller boots who need the most compact folded size available
Flagship Features, Smart Starting Price
The CT8 GPS 18 Hole is the most accessible way to get into the CT8 range and still comes loaded with every headline feature.
£939
Powakaddy CT8 GPS 36 Hole Lithium

Design Philosophy
The Powakaddy CT8 GPS 36 Hole Lithium is the same flagship trolley, fitted with a bigger, extended-range battery. If you regularly play thirty-six holes in a day, if you hate the thought of a battery dying on the 16th, or if you want peace of mind in cold weather, this is the model to pick.
The 36-hole battery is a 260WH pack that weighs 1.95kg, so you get nearly double the runtime for only a modest weight penalty over the 18-hole unit. It is still a Plug-and-Play battery, so fitment is as simple as dropping it into place.
Key Features at a Glance
- Same 3.5-inch Touchscreen and integrated GPS as the 18-hole model
- 36-hole lithium battery (260WH, 1.95kg)
- Extended range for longer rounds, cold weather, or two rounds per charge
- Active Green View, Drop Pin, Bluetooth App
- ADF, Scorecard, USB-C, Simple-2-Fold
- Premium metallic frame with carbon effect trims
Specifications
- Price: £989
- Trolley Weight: 9.9kg (without battery)
- Battery: 36 Hole 30V Plug and Play Lithium, 260WH, 1.95kg
- Folded Size: H 510mm x W 425mm x D 375mm
- Unfolded Size: H 955mm x W 555mm x D 1170mm
- Motor: 30v 230w
- Screen: 3.5-inch PCAP colour touchscreen
- EBS: Not fitted (see EBS models below)
Strengths
- Nearly double the battery capacity for only a small weight increase
- Cold weather confidence when batteries deplete faster
- Do 36 holes or two rounds on a single charge
- Only £50 more than the 18-hole model
- Same flagship tech and warranty
Considerations
- Heavier battery to lift in and out of the boot
- Overkill for 9-hole players or anyone who rarely plays 36
- No EBS on this model for downhill braking
- Higher cost per round if you only play eighteen holes
Who Should Buy the CT8 GPS 36 Hole?
- Members who often play 36 holes in a day or back-to-back rounds
- Winter golfers who want extra capacity when the cold drains the battery faster
- Golf society regulars who do not want to worry about charging between rounds
- Anyone who wants the safety net of extra capacity
Extended Range for Big Golf Days
For only £50 more, the 36-hole battery is the smart upgrade for winter golfers and 36-hole days.
£989
Powakaddy CT8 GPS EBS 18 Hole Lithium

Design Philosophy
The Powakaddy CT8 GPS EBS 18 Hole Lithium adds the Electronic Braking System to the 18-hole flagship. If your home course has proper hills, or if you have ever had a trolley career away from you on a steep slope, EBS is the feature you want.
EBS is not a handbrake you pull on. It is a self-sensing system that detects steep inclines automatically and gently slows the trolley to keep it under control. You do not have to do anything. The trolley feels planted and predictable, even on the sort of slopes that used to have you jogging after it.
Key Features at a Glance
- Everything in the Powakaddy CT8 GPS 18 Hole, plus the full EBS system
- Self-sensing Electronic Braking System (EBS) for steep inclines
- 18-hole lithium battery (220WH, 1.8kg)
- Integrated GPS with 40,000+ courses and Drop Pin
- 3.5-inch PCAP colour touchscreen
- Bluetooth App, Active Green View, ADF, USB-C, Simple-2-Fold
Specifications
- Price: £999
- Trolley Weight: 9.9kg (without battery)
- Battery: 18 Hole 30V Plug and Play Lithium, 220WH, 1.8kg
- Folded Size: H 510mm x W 425mm x D 375mm
- Motor: 30v 230w
- Screen: 3.5-inch PCAP colour touchscreen
- EBS: Yes, self-sensing Electronic Braking System
Strengths
- EBS keeps the trolley planted on steep downhills automatically
- Peace of mind on hilly parkland courses
- All CT8 flagship features retained
- Lighter 18-hole battery for easy lifting
- Only £60 more than the standard 18-hole CT8
Considerations
- An 18-hole battery only, which may limit longer days
- EBS is unnecessary on flat courses, so the premium may not pay back
- Price creep approaches the 36-hole EBS model
Who Should Buy the Powakaddy CT8 GPS EBS 18 Hole?
- Golfers playing hilly courses who do not need an extended battery range
- Anyone who has ever chased a runaway trolley down a slope
- Members at courses with steep cart paths or undulating fairways
- Golfers who want the safety feature without paying for 36-hole capacity
Flagship Tech with Hill Control
Add EBS for just £60 and stop chasing your trolley down the slopes.
£999

Powakaddy CT8 vs CT6: Which is Right for You?
Powakaddy also offer the CT6 at a lower price point. Both sit above the FX range and share a lot of the same DNA. Here is how they compare, so you can decide whether the step up to the Powakaddy CT8 is worth it.
Mark Crossfield’s Take: “They both feature the bag attachment system MAG-LOK, locking that bag into place, keeping it nice and secure. Both feature a lightweight, durable frame. They also feature the silent motor, so as you go along, it literally does not make a noise.”
The shared DNA is real. Mark is clear that the base platform is the same. The difference is how much technology you want on top.
| Feature | CT6 | CT8 |
|---|---|---|
| Touchscreen | 2.8-inch full colour | 3.5-inch PCAP colour |
| GPS | Optional upgrade | Integrated on every model |
| Drop Pin Technology | GPS models only | Standard on every model |
| Bluetooth App | GPS models only | Standard on every model |
| EBS | Optional | Optional |
| Simple-2-Fold chassis | Yes | Yes |
| Starting Price | From £749 | From £939 |
In simple terms, the Powakaddy CT6 is the sensible mid-range pick. The CT8 is the fully loaded flagship. If you want the bigger 3.5-inch Touchscreen, integrated GPS as standard, Drop Pin and the Bluetooth app, the CT8 is the one. If budget is king and you are happy with a smaller screen and optional GPS, save some money and look at the CT6.
Buying Guide and Decision Tree
Use this short decision tree to narrow down which Powakddy CT8 is right for you.
Priority 1: Do you play hilly courses?
If your course has steep hills, cart paths or undulating fairways, EBS makes a real difference. It keeps the trolley at a safe speed without you having to hold it back.
- YES → Choose an EBS model (continue to Priority 2)
- NO → A standard CT8 GPS will do (skip to Priority 3)
Priority 2: Do you play 36 holes in a day, or play a lot of winter golf?
Cold weather drains lithium batteries faster, and society or event days often include 27 or 36 holes. The 36-hole battery removes all doubt.
- YES → Choose the CT8 GPS EBS 36 Hole (£1039)
- NO → Choose the CT8 GPS EBS 18 Hole (£999)
Priority 3: Do you play 36 holes or a lot of winter golf (no EBS route)?
If you are stuck with the non-EBS route, you only need to pick between the 18-hole and 36-hole battery.
- YES, I want the extended range → Choose the CT8 GPS 36 Hole (£989)
- NO, 18 holes is all I play → Choose the CT8 GPS 18 Hole (£939)

Powakaddy CT8 Technology Explained
Here is what each of the headline CT8 features actually does in plain English, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Simple-2-Fold Chassis
Two quick folding motions collapse the trolley into a compact rectangle roughly the size of a small carry-on bag. The folded footprint is H 510mm x W 425mm x D 375mm.
It is 20% smaller than the old Powakaddy C2i and around 35% smaller than the nearest competitor compact trolley. If you drive a hatchback or an SUV with a dog in the back, this is the feature that will make you smile every week.
3.5 Inch PCAP Touchscreen
PCAP stands for projected capacitive touch. It is the same technology found in a modern smartphone, which means it responds accurately to light touches, and it works with a golf glove on.
The screen is a full-colour TFT display designed to remain readable in bright sunlight and rain. On the Powakaddy CT8, you also get a wider aspect ratio than the CT6, so yardages and maps show more information at a glance.
Integrated GPS with Active Green View
Every CT8 comes pre-loaded with over 40,000 courses worldwide. It auto-detects your course and auto advances hole to hole as you play. The Active Green View feature updates the green shape as you approach, and the directional approach arrow shows the line in.
You also get front, centre and back distances, plus hazard and dogleg yardages. There are no fees, no subscriptions and nothing to activate.
Drop Pin Technology
Standard GPS gives you the distance to the centre of the green. Drop Pin lets you tap the green map where the flag actually is, and it recalculates the yardage to that exact point. Brilliant for back-pin Sundays or tucked-front flags.
Bluetooth App Connectivity
Pair the CT8 with your phone via Bluetooth and the Powakaddy app (iOS and Android). Use the app to update courses, download new maps, and track your rounds with the game-tracking feature. Once set up, it all happens quietly in the background when you are in range of the trolley.
Electronic Braking System (EBS)
EBS is self-sensing. The trolley detects when you are going down an incline and automatically applies gentle braking to maintain a controlled speed. You do not have to press or hold anything. On a steep hill, an EBS-equipped CT8 rolls down at walking pace instead of taking off. It is one of those features you do not miss until you have tried it.
MAG-LOK Bag Attachment
The bag attachment uses strong magnets to snap the bag into place on the trolley. No straps to faff with, no twisting clips. Click it on, click it off. Once your bag is on, it will not shift around even on rough ground.
ADF Automatic Distance Function
Set a distance between ten and sixty yards, let go of the handle, and the trolley walks itself forward that exact distance before stopping. Perfect for sending the trolley up to the next tee while you mark your card.
Lithium Plug and Play Battery
The lithium pack drops into the chassis with no tools. Connections are automatic. The 18-hole 220WH pack weighs 1.8kg, and the 36-hole 260WH pack weighs 1.95kg. Both are covered by up to a 5-year warranty if you register your battery with Powakaddy after purchase. We strongly recommend doing this.
Value Insight: Assuming two rounds a week and an average trolley life of 7 years, the CT8 GPS 18 Hole works out at roughly £1.29 per round. Spread the flagship CT8 GPS EBS 36 Hole over the same usage, and you land at around £1.43 per round. B
Both figures exclude the ancillary value of a built-in GPS that you might otherwise pay £200+ for as a separate device.
Looked at that way, the cost per round of owning a proper flagship electric trolley is smaller than you might think.

Powakaddy CT8 FAQ
Is the Powakaddy CT8 worth the extra money over the CT6?
If you want a bigger screen and built-in GPS, yes.
The CT8 upgrades you to a 3.5-inch PCAP touchscreen (versus 2.8-inch on the CT6), a fully integrated GPS with 40,000+ courses as standard, Drop Pin technology and Bluetooth app connectivity. If any of those are high on your wish list, the CT8 is worth the jump. If you only care about propulsion and simple controls, the CT6 saves money and does the core job brilliantly.
Do I need the 36-hole battery?
Only if you play more than 18 holes in a day, or play a lot of winter golf.
The 18-hole battery is plenty for a typical round on a regular course. Cold weather reduces battery capacity, so if you are a winter warrior or society player, the 36-hole pack is worth the extra £50. For most weekend golfers, the 18-hole is the right call.
What is EBS, and do I need it?
EBS is an automatic downhill braking system.
It senses steeper inclines and slows the trolley to a controlled walking pace without you having to do anything. If your course has noticeable hills or steep cart paths, it is a worthwhile upgrade. On a properly flat course, you can probably live without it.
Can I use the Powakaddy CT8 without the GPS features?
Yes, absolutely.
If you already use a rangefinder or a GPS watch you love, you can switch to a simple speed display and use the CT8 as an electric trolley. There is no obligation to use the GPS, but most golfers find they do once it is there. Remember that GPS updates have no annual fee or subscription.
How long does the battery last, and is it covered by warranty?
The trolley has a 2-year warranty, and the lithium battery is covered by up to 5 years if you register it with Powakaddy.
We strongly advise you to register your battery as soon as you receive it. It takes less than five minutes online and significantly enhances your peace of mind. Most lithium packs will last many hundreds of rounds before any noticeable degradation.
Is the CT8 suitable for tall or short golfers?
Yes. The soft-touch handle is fully height-adjustable.
Whether you are 5 feet 2 or 6 feet 4, you can set the handle at a comfortable walking height. The ergonomic design keeps your wrist neutral and the controls within reach of your thumb, so you can tap buttons without looking down.
Will my existing bag fit?
Most modern cart bags will fit the CT8 without issue.
The MAG-LOK system works with standard cart bag bases. Powakaddy’s own cart bags are optimised for the MAG-LOK connection for the most secure fit, but any well-designed cart bag will sit happily on the CT8 with the bottom strap and upper bag restraint.

Final Verdict on the Powakaddy CT8 Range
Powakaddy CT8 GPS 18 Hole Lithium (£939)
The smart starting point. Flagship features, the smallest folded footprint in the CT range, integrated GPS and a full 3.5-inch colour touchscreen. The right CT8 for most weekend eighteen-hole golfers on gentle courses.
Powakaddy CT8 GPS 36 Hole Lithium (£989)
The insurance policy. Add a bigger battery for sunny days, winter rounds, and any day you want to avoid thinking about charge level. For £50 more, it is the smart upgrade for many golfers.
Powakaddy CT8 GPS EBS 18 Hole Lithium (£999)
The hilly course specialist. All the flagship tech plus the self-sensing Electronic Braking System, with a lighter 18-hole battery. The best pick for golfers on undulating parkland who rarely play more than eighteen in a day.
Powakaddy CT8 GPS EBS 36 Hole Lithium (£1039)
The no-compromises flagship. Every feature Powakaddy build into a CT range trolley, paired with the biggest battery and downhill braking—the buy-once, never-upgrade option.
The Bottom Line
The Powakaddy CT8 range is the best compact electric trolley lineup Powakaddy has made. The integrated GPS alone is reason enough to consider stepping up from the CT6 or a competitor trolley. Add the bigger Touchscreen, Drop Pin, Bluetooth app and Simple-2-Fold chassis, and you have a trolley that genuinely changes how you experience a round of golf.
As Mark Crossfield sums up the CT range, “CT6 CT8 two great trolleys for anyone who’s looking for an electric trolley. Remember, you get a 2-year warranty on these trolleys, and up to a 5-year warranty on the lithium battery if you register it, which we strongly advise.
If you want a very reliable world-class electric trolley, Powakaddy have been doing it for years, and they’ve got a great range in the CT range.”
All equipment sold at The Golf Shop Online conforms fully to the specifications set out by The R&A, the governing body for golf outside the United States and Mexico. That includes every Powakaddy trolley and battery in our range.
