The New Srixon ZXi Range: Three Irons, One Family
Srixon irons are among the most popular in golf right now, and the new ZXi range is a big reason why. It brings three models: the ZXi7, the ZXi5 and the all-new ZXi5+. All are forged in Japan at Endo, all are cavity back designs, and all share the same sole and groove technology. Our PGA team has pulled together this guide to explain how they differ, so you can match one to your game from our full range of golf irons.
What Mark Crossfield Noticed First
Mark’s first impression of the new range was how well the heads work together. The ZXi5+ in particular is designed to sit alongside the other two without looking or sounding out of place, which makes mixing models in one set a realistic option.
“First thing that really strikes with these irons, which we’ll get into the tech in a second, is how blendable they are.”
— Mark Crossfield
Shared Technology Across the ZXi Range
i-FORGED
Condensed forging adds strength in key areas, which allows softer steel to be used elsewhere. Mark noted the same feel and strengthening across the face on all three models.
Tour V.T. Sole
A mix of sole widths, bounce angles, and notches helps the club glide through fairway, rough, and sand. Mark describes it as super popular for turf interaction.
Progressive Grooves
The 3-iron to 7-iron use wider grooves for longer shots in all conditions. The shorter irons use deeper, closer-set grooves with laser milling for spin.
PureFrame iQ
Found on the ZXi7. A wider, thicker ridge of softer S15C steel behind the sweet spot stiffens the impact zone and increases stability.
MainFrame iQ
Found on the ZXi5 and ZXi5+. A network of milled channels behind the forged face flexes at impact to help keep ball speed consistent across the face.
Endo Forging
Every face and body is forged at Endo, Japan’s premier forging house, for the soft feel Srixon is known for.
The Three Srixon ZXi Models Explained
Each model is covered below in the same order, from the most compact head to the most forgiving. Read the specification notes, then use the comparison and decision tools further down.

Tour-style shaping: Srixon ZXi7 Irons
The compact, workable model of the range, built for skilled ball-strikers who want feedback and shot-shaping control.
The ZXi7 is a true players’ iron. It has a single-piece S15C forged body with i-FORGED technology and an expanded PureFrame iQ ridge directly behind the sweet spot. Srixon says this stiffens the impact zone while raising MOI, so you get a soft, stable feel without losing the clean look.
At address you will notice a thinner topline, a narrow sole, a short blade length and minimal offset. Mark points out that these cavity back heads carry top lines that resemble players’ club shaping, and that the ZXi7 in particular has next to no offset, which makes you feel like you are in a bladed world.
It comes with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid 115 shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip. Srixon lists the recommended handicap as low, with forgiveness rated low to mid, and a 7-iron loft of 32°. At £999 for a 6-club set, it targets golfers who consistently strike the middle of the face.
“Remember, these are all cavity back clubs. So, they’re all there to help you.”
— Mark Crossfield
- Thin topline, narrow sole and minimal offset for precise shaping
- PureFrame iQ ridge for a soft, stable feel
- Dynamic Gold Mid 115 shaft as standard
- Smallest margin for error of the three models
- Weakest lofts in the range, with a 7-iron at 32°

Balanced performance: Srixon ZXi5 Irons
A players’ performance iron that balances distance, workability and forgiveness in a clean, compact profile.
The ZXi5 combines a forged SUP10 steel face with a forged S20C body, with tungsten in the construction. It uses MainFrame iQ, a variable-thickness network of grooves, channels and notches milled into the back of the face, designed to flex together at impact and keep ball speed up across the face.
The shape sits between the other two models. Srixon describes a slightly wider sole, a moderate offset and a thinner topline than previous generations. The stock shaft is a True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid 100 or 115, depending on your build, and the recommended handicap is low to mid, with forgiveness rated mid to high.
Its 7-iron loft is 31°, so it sits one degree stronger than the ZXi7 and three and a half degrees weaker than the ZXi5+. Mark notes that the ZXi5 replaces a chunkier previous design that sounded clippier off the face, and that the newer head feels more refined.
It is a sensible reference point if you are not sure which direction to go, because it sits in the middle of the range on every measure.
- Forged face and body with MainFrame iQ for consistent ball speed
- Clean address profile with moderate offset
- Dynamic Gold Mid 100 or 115 shaft options
- Less shaping freedom than the ZXi7
- Less forgiveness and launch than the ZXi5+

Distance and forgiveness: Srixon ZXi5+ Irons
A players’ distance iron with longer blades, wider soles and stronger lofts, for golfers who want help without losing the look.
The ZXi5+ is the new addition to the line-up. It uses i-FORGED construction and MainFrame iQ, with an Endo-forged SUP10 face and an S20C body with tungsten. Srixon describes longer blade lengths, wider soles and stronger lofts than the standard ZXi5, aimed at high-launching, powerful distance.
The shape is still player-preferred, with a tour-inspired topline. Recommended handicap is mid to high, forgiveness is rated high, and the 7-iron loft is 28.5°. The listed stock shaft is Dynamic Gold Mid 90/100, which is lighter than the other two models.
Mark’s main point is how well it blends. He says the ZXi5+ now matches the others for sound, feel and looks, and that the stronger lofts can be useful in the longer irons, where golfers often start losing distance. He suggests it may suit those who want to replace the four-iron or five-iron.
“The 5 Plus now blends in sound, in feel, in looks with the other two.”
— Mark Crossfield
- Stronger lofts and wider soles for launch and distance
- High forgiveness rating
- Blends visually and in feel with the ZXi5 and ZXi7
- Longer blade and wider sole than the ZXi5
- Stronger lofts mean wedge gapping needs planning
Loft Comparison: ZXi7 vs ZXi5 vs ZXi5+
Stronger lofts help distance but change the gaps through the bag. Use this table with a PGA professional if you are planning a mixed set.
| Club | ZXi7 | ZXi5 | ZXi5+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-iron (RH only) | 20° | 20° | 19° |
| 4-iron | 22° | 22° | 21° |
| 5-iron | 25° | 24° | 23° |
| 6-iron | 28° | 27° | 25.5° |
| 7-iron | 32° | 31° | 28.5° |
| 8-iron | 36° | 35° | 33° |
| 9-iron | 41° | 39° | 38° |
| Pitching wedge | 46° | 44° | 43° |
| Approach wedge | 51° | 50° | 49° |
| Sand wedge (RH only) | 57° | 56° | 56° |
Standard lofts as listed by Srixon. Always confirm your set’s exact specifications before ordering.
Which Srixon ZXi Is the Right Fit? A Decision Tree
Priority 1: Do you want maximum shot-shaping control and a compact head?
- YES → The ZXi7 is built for this, with a thin topline and minimal offset
- NO → Skip to Priority 2
Priority 2: Do you want a balance of forged feel, distance and workability?
- YES → The ZXi5 sits in the middle of the range
- NO → Skip to Priority 3
Priority 3: Do you want more launch, distance and forgiveness?
- YES → The ZXi5+ has stronger lofts, wider soles and a higher forgiveness rating
- MIXED NEEDS → Consider blending models, as covered in the next section
Blending Models in One Set
Because all three heads share the same sole, groove approach and forged feel, Srixon designed them to be mixed. Mark highlighted that the ZXi5+ now blends sound, feel, and looks with the other two, which wasn’t always true of the previous generation’s more forgiving model.
A common idea is to use a more forgiving head in the longer irons, where distance and launch are harder to find, and a more compact head in the scoring irons. Mark mentions the ZXi5+ as a possible replacement for the four-iron or five-iron. Whether that suits you depends on your swing speed, strike pattern and wedge gapping.
That is why we recommend a conversation before ordering a mixed set. Our PGA team can talk through lofts, shafts and lie angles with you.

How We Compared the ZXi Range
Our PGA professional team compared the three sets using Srixon’s published specifications, including construction, shaping, loft, shaft and recommended handicap. We also drew on Mark Crossfield’s hands-on observations about how the heads look, sound and blend.
We deliberately avoided ranking the models. Each one targets a different golfer, so the right answer depends on your swing and priorities. For a fitted recommendation, our team is on hand by phone and email.
Srixon ZXi Irons: Frequently Asked Questions

The ZXi7 has a single-piece S15C forged body. The ZXi5 and ZXi5+ pair a forged SUP10 face with an S20C forged body that includes tungsten. All use i-FORGED condensed forging to add strength and allow a soft feel.
What shafts come as standard on the ZXi range?
Steel shafts, matched to each model.
The ZXi7 comes with True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid 115, and the ZXi5 with Dynamic Gold Mid 100 or 115. The ZXi5+ is listed with a lighter Dynamic Gold Mid 90/100. All have Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips. Ask our team about custom options.
How do I choose between a players’ iron and a distance iron?
Think about strike quality and where you need help.
