Titleist Vokey SM9 Wedges – First Look

By on February 28, 2022

Every year, Bob Vokey and his team at Titleist have the same challenge: How do we continually better the most popular wedges on the market and on tour? However, with subtle adjustments from their SM8 range to improve the accuracy of contact, bring down the ball flight and increase spin numbers with the Titleist Vokey SM9 wedges, they might have done just that. On top of this, multiple colours and grind options could make the latest instalment to the Vokey range a great option for you.

The New Technology

For the 2022 Titleist SM9 Vokey wedges, the centre of gravity (CG) has been raised even higher and pushed forward to facilitate better ball flight control and solid strike. The result is increased playability for all, allowing you to judge distance and target flags more precisely. The grooves have also been redesigned and cut right to the edge to maximise spin, whilst the impact zone has received a localised heat treatment to reportedly double the durability of the grooves. This will be a great addition for the SM9 wedges as durability can be a worry for many, particularly on high spin wedges that have been known to experience sharp declines in performance from constant wear.

Finally, something Titleist has always excelled in throughout their Vokey ranges is their variety of grind offerings. They acknowledge that regardless of your age and ability, your swing will always be unique, and that requires a unique wedge. Selecting the appropriate grind and loft options to match your swing and playing conditions will ensure perfect contact every time in any situation, as well as consistent yardage gaps throughout the bag. However, this can get confusing, so please see our blog on selecting the best grind option for you to gain a better insight into how you can make the most out of your new wedges.

Although each Titleist Vokey SM9 wedge is designed to tailor to particular needs, it is always worth consulting a custom fitting service to optimise your setup. This is often neglected with wedges but is probably as important as ever to match lo

fts and bounces with your game.
