Golf Waterproofs Buyers Guide
It can be difficult to choose the best golf waterproofs suit for your game and our small buyers guide should help you come to terms with the terminology
Waterproof?
As this name suggests this is the first thing you should look for when purchasing some waterproofs. Do not be confused by a garment that states water resistant as this will only keep a smaller amount of water out. The longer the guarantee the better and stick to your brand names.
Rainproof/Showerproof?
As mentioned above if you want a garment that will keep a light rain shower out then this will be fine. They tend to be very lightweight and cheaper to purchase but don’t expect them to keep you dry when the heavens open.
Jacket with or without sleeves?
A lot of players do like to play with a jacket that does not have any sleeves. Although this seems daft as the jacket will no longer keep your sleeves dry but the removal of the sleeves does give the player some extra freedom when swinging. One of the best options is to choose a jacket with zip of sleeves as you will get the best of both worlds.
Amazingly the short sleeved jacket came to existence when former US Open champion Payne Stewart was playing in the rain and he got fed up of his baggy sleeves on his rain gear. So quite simply he just ripped them off however many thought this was a new fashion garment and so the sleeveless waterproof was born.
Waterproof Trousers
Although one of the most boring items of golf equipment you will probably buy you really should not skimp in this department. Not only will you use the trousers when it’s pouring down but when you get a heavy dew on the ground or the fairways are damp through previous rainfall these will get heavily used. Make sure you choose the correct leg length as a trouser that is too long can get caught up in your spikes and can then easily tear.
Overview. We really believe that if you invest in a really good quality set of waterproofs you will reap the benefits. They will keep you dry and the better waterproofs tend to last a lot longer.
Don’t forget to follow the washing instructions and please please remove your wet waterproofs from your golf bag as this will certainly reduce the life expectancy of the garment.
