Best Childrens Golf Clubs 2026: A Parent’s Buying Guide
Why height matters more than age
The single most common mistake parents make when buying childrens golf clubs is shopping by birthday. Two nine-year-olds can differ by 20cm in height, and a club that is too long forces a child to stand too far from the ball and swing around their body. That builds a habit that takes years to unlearn.
Every good maker of childrens golf clubs sizes by height for this reason. US Kids Golf names its sets after the child’s height in inches, so a UL7 45 fits a child of 45 to 48 inches. Callaway lists a centimetre range on every XJ set.
Weight matters just as much. A junior club cut down from adult parts is far too heavy, and a child who cannot lift it will swing with their arms alone. Proper childrens golf clubs use lighter heads and softer shafts, which is how we select our golf club range.
How to measure in 30 seconds: stand your child against a wall in socks, mark the top of their head, and measure from the floor. Then measure wrist to floor with arms relaxed at their sides. Those two numbers are all any fitter needs, and they beat guessing from a shoe size or a school year every time.
What to look for in childrens golf clubs
Total set weight
Your child carries this. If they cannot lift the bag unaided, the set is wrong, however good the clubs are.
Number of clubs
Three or four is plenty under age eight. More clubs means more weight and more decisions.
Grip size
Junior grips are thinner for small hands. An adult grip forces a child to squeeze, killing a free swing.
Shaft flex
Children swing slowly, so shafts must be soft to load. A stiff shaft will not get the ball airborne.
Growing room
Do not size up hoping for two seasons. Clubs that are too long damage posture. Buy to fit today.
Resale value

At this age childrens golf clubs are really a toy that happens to be real. Keep it light and short, and expect far more garden use than course use. Do not spend heavily, because they will outgrow it within 18 months.
Longridge Junior Tiger
Driver, iron and putter in a light carry bag. The cheapest honest way to find out whether your child is interested at all.
US Kids UL7 39
Fits 39 to 42 inches exactly. Clubheads are 30% lighter than adult models, so a small child can actually swing it properly.
MacGregor V-Max 3-5
Driver, iron, putter, headcovers and a proper stand bag. The most complete package at this size, and it looks like a grown-up kit.
Age 5-8
Height 110 – 125cm · 3 to 4 clubs · first trips to the course
This is where most children start properly, and where the choice of childrens golf clubs matters most. They can get the ball airborne but still need very light heads. Three or four clubs teach shot selection without loading them down.

Age 7-9
Height 120 – 135cm · 4 to 6 clubs · junior club membership age
Children at this stage often join a junior section and play nine holes properly. Six clubs becomes reasonable and a wedge earns its place. This is the band where better childrens golf clubs genuinely return better ball flight.
US Kids UL7 45
Four club stand set for 45 to 48 inches, with heads 25% lighter than adult clubs. The reliable default at this height.
Cleveland Junior Medium
Driver, irons, putter and stand bag from a brand that knows short game. Well balanced and forgiving for developing swings.
Callaway XJ Level 2
Six piece set for 119cm to 135cm. The extra clubs and Callaway head design suit a child already having lessons.
Age 9-12
Height 135 – 150cm · 6 to 8 clubs · handicaps and competitions
By now a keen child is playing eighteen holes, entering junior competitions and probably out-driving a parent. A fuller set with a hybrid and a wedge makes sense, and the quality of the childrens golf clubs starts to limit scoring rather than the child.

Age 12-14
Height 150 – 163cm · 8 or more clubs · the last junior-specific set
This is usually the final set of childrens golf clubs before adult equipment, so it is worth buying properly. A 13-year-old with a genuine handicap will feel the difference between a budget package and a fitted junior set immediately.

Driver, hybrid, irons, wedge, putter and stand bag. A complete bag of clubs for under £190.

Age 14+
Height 157cm plus · full set · moving to adult equipment
Once a teenager passes about 157cm, junior ranges run out and the sensible move is a teen or adult set with lighter shafts. Buying childrens golf clubs at this point wastes money, because they will be too short within a season.

The junior section regular

What age can a child start playing golf?
Around three, with the right equipment.
At that age, it is play rather than golf, and a three-club set is plenty. Most children are ready for structured lessons and short course play from about six or seven, once they can follow instruction and concentrate for an hour.
How many clubs does a child need?
Three under age eight, four to six until twelve, then eight or more.
Fewer clubs means a lighter bag and simpler decisions, both of which help a child learn faster. A driver, one iron and a putter genuinely cover a whole round for a beginner.
Should I buy childrens golf clubs a size too big?
No. Buy to fit today.
Clubs that are too long force a child to stand back from the ball and swing flat around their body. That habit is genuinely difficult to correct later. Buy the right size, then resell and replace, which is cheaper than paying a coach to undo the damage.
Package set or individual clubs?
A package set, almost always.
Package sets match weight and flex across the set and include the bag, which alone costs £50 or more. Individual childrens golf clubs only make sense for a serious competitor, or to replace a broken club.
How often will we need to replace them?
Every two years on average, or every 10cm of growth.
Between six and fourteen most children move through three or four sets of childrens golf clubs. This is why resale value matters, and why Ping and Callaway can work out cheaper per season than they appear.
Are girls’ and boys’ sets different?
