Best Childrens Golf Clubs 2026: A Parent’s Buying Guide

Start Here
Childrens golf clubs are fitted by height, not age. Measure your child first, then use the selector below to jump straight to a good, better and best option for their size.

We have deliberately not crowned a single winner here. A set that is perfect for a seven-year-old is useless for a twelve-year-old, so the right answer depends entirely on your child. Prices run from £69.95 to £899.
Shop by age

Tap an age band to jump to three recommended sets for that size. Height is the more reliable guide, so we have listed both.

Why height matters more than age

The single most common mistake parents make when buying childrens golf clubs is shopping by birthday. Two nine-year-olds can differ by 20cm in height, and a club that is too long forces a child to stand too far from the ball and swing around their body. That builds a habit that takes years to unlearn.

Every good maker of childrens golf clubs sizes by height for this reason. US Kids Golf names its sets after the child’s height in inches, so a UL7 45 fits a child of 45 to 48 inches. Callaway lists a centimetre range on every XJ set.

Weight matters just as much. A junior club cut down from adult parts is far too heavy, and a child who cannot lift it will swing with their arms alone. Proper childrens golf clubs use lighter heads and softer shafts, which is how we select our golf club range.

How to measure in 30 seconds: stand your child against a wall in socks, mark the top of their head, and measure from the floor. Then measure wrist to floor with arms relaxed at their sides. Those two numbers are all any fitter needs, and they beat guessing from a shoe size or a school year every time.

What to look for in childrens golf clubs

Total set weight

Your child carries this. If they cannot lift the bag unaided, the set is wrong, however good the clubs are.

Number of clubs

Three or four is plenty under age eight. More clubs means more weight and more decisions.

Grip size

Junior grips are thinner for small hands. An adult grip forces a child to squeeze, killing a free swing.

Shaft flex

Children swing slowly, so shafts must be soft to load. A stiff shaft will not get the ball airborne.

Growing room

Do not size up hoping for two seasons. Clubs that are too long damage posture. Buy to fit today.

Resale value

Childrens golf clubs hold value well because every family faces the same growth problem. Premium brands sell on easily.

Quick Navigation

Age 3-5

Height 95 – 110cm · 3 clubs is plenty · the goal is fun, not technique

At this age childrens golf clubs are really a toy that happens to be real. Keep it light and short, and expect far more garden use than course use. Do not spend heavily, because they will outgrow it within 18 months.

Age 5-8

Height 110 – 125cm · 3 to 4 clubs · first trips to the course

Height 135 – 150cm · 6 to 8 clubs · handicaps and competitions

By now a keen child is playing eighteen holes, entering junior competitions and probably out-driving a parent. A fuller set with a hybrid and a wedge makes sense, and the quality of the childrens golf clubs starts to limit scoring rather than the child.

What separates the Prodi G from every package set above is that it is genuinely fitted rather than sized. Ping publishes a fitting chart based on your child’s height and wrist-to-floor measurement, and the clubs are built to that spec. Length, lie angle and grip size are all matched to the individual.

The difference shows up in ball flight. Junior head weighting and soft shafts help a slower swing launch high and hold the ball up, which is the biggest scoring problem for a young player using clubs that are too heavy.

It is not the right purchase for a child who plays twice a summer. For a junior club champion heading into county golf, these are the childrens golf clubs that stop equipment being the limit. Individual Ping Prodi G clubs are also sold separately.

Strengths
  • Genuinely custom fitted, not just sized
  • Adult-grade build quality throughout
  • Excellent resale value on the used market
  • Individual clubs available separately
Considerations
  • £899 is four times a good package set
  • Only fits 52 to 62 inches

The range splits neatly. MKids Lite covers ages five to nine across three sizes at £149 to £179, and MKids Pro covers nine to fourteen at £209.99. Each set includes a fairway wood, irons, a wedge, a putter and a stand bag.

What makes MKids stand out is weight. The heads are genuinely light and the shafts genuinely soft, which many cheaper childrens golf clubs claim, and few deliver. Children get the ball airborne on the first swing, and that keeps them interested.

Individual MKids clubs are sold separately too, from £27.50 for an iron. That is useful when a child snaps a shaft, or you want to add a hybrid without replacing the whole set of children’s golf clubs.

Childrens golf clubs by price

If your budget is fixed, this is the fastest way to see what it buys. Every set of childrens golf clubs below fits a specific height range, so check the age band first.

Under £100

Complete starter sets with a bag. Fine for occasional play and cheap enough to replace as your child grows.

£100 to £250

The band we point most parents towards. This is where childrens golf clubs get properly light heads and correct grip sizes.

£250 to £500

For juniors playing regular competitions. More clubs, better heads and noticeably better flight.

£500 plus

The only childrens golf clubs at this price worth buying, and only for a weekly player with a handicap.

How much should you actually spend?

START HERE: How often will your child actually play?

Priority 1: Are they trying golf for the first time?

  • YES → Spend under £100. Longridge at £69.95 or Ben Sayers at £99.
  • NO → Skip to Priority 2

Priority 2: Do they play at least monthly, or have lessons?

  • YES → Spend £150 to £250. MKids or US Kids, sized to their height.
  • NO → Stay under £100 and revisit next season.

Priority 3: Do they hold a club handicap and compete?

  • YES, and improving fast → Ping Prodi G at £899, custom fitted.
  • YES, but growing quickly → Callaway XJ or XT Teen, and resell in 18 months.

The curious five-year-old

Profile: Has swung a plastic club in the garden and wants to copy a parent. No lessons yet.

Recommendation: Longridge Junior Tiger at £69.95 or US Kids UL7 39 at £114.95.

Why: Three light clubs and a bag they can carry. Spending more now buys nothing except a bigger loss when they outgrow it.

The junior section regular

Profile: Age 8 to 12, plays most weekends in the summer, has a coach and is working towards a first handicap.

Recommendation: MKids Pro Half Set at £209.99 or Callaway XJ Level 3 at £399.

Why: This is where equipment starts limiting the player. Correct weight and flex show up directly in ball flight.

The county standard teenager

Profile: Age 12 to 15, single-figure handicap, practising several times a week and entering county events.

Recommendation: Ping Prodi G at £899, or Cobra Fly XL 2 at £569 if already adult height.

Why: Fitted lie angle and length matter at this level. Call us, and we will work through the fitting chart with you.

Childrens golf clubs FAQs

What age can a child start playing golf?

Around three, with the right equipment.

At that age, it is play rather than golf, and a three-club set is plenty. Most children are ready for structured lessons and short course play from about six or seven, once they can follow instruction and concentrate for an hour.

How many clubs does a child need?

Three under age eight, four to six until twelve, then eight or more.

Fewer clubs means a lighter bag and simpler decisions, both of which help a child learn faster. A driver, one iron and a putter genuinely cover a whole round for a beginner.

Should I buy childrens golf clubs a size too big?

No. Buy to fit today.

Clubs that are too long force a child to stand back from the ball and swing flat around their body. That habit is genuinely difficult to correct later. Buy the right size, then resell and replace, which is cheaper than paying a coach to undo the damage.

Package set or individual clubs?

A package set, almost always.

Package sets match weight and flex across the set and include the bag, which alone costs £50 or more. Individual childrens golf clubs only make sense for a serious competitor, or to replace a broken club.

How often will we need to replace them?

Every two years on average, or every 10cm of growth.

Between six and fourteen most children move through three or four sets of childrens golf clubs. This is why resale value matters, and why Ping and Callaway can work out cheaper per season than they appear.

Are girls’ and boys’ sets different?

Below about age twelve, no, beyond colour. Height and strength drive the specification of childrens golf clubs, not gender, and the US Kids sets here are unisex. From the early teens girls’ sets use slightly lighter shafts. If in doubt, fit to height.
