Yes, mainly in fit, breathability and how well they stay put.
A golf hat has to survive a full shoulder turn without shifting, vent heat over a five-mile walk and cope with rain. Stretch knits, fleece ear bands and technical liners address all three, which a fashion beanie rarely does.
Do I need a windproof hat, or is a knitted one enough?
It depends almost entirely on how exposed your course is.
