Mind Over Matter
This wonderful game of ours isn’t all about how you hit the ball. There are player out there capable of miraculous shots- feats of ball-striking that blow minds- but these aren’t typically the players at the head of the pack. Why? Because this game is more about what’s going on the old meat computer. This a game that takes a certain kind of mind and a certain mind-set. Just as you can train your stroke, you can also train your mind and bring that score down.
Golf tips magazine has a great article about this worth checking out for anyone serious about the game, here are some highlights.
The first may seem incredibly obvious- pay attention to the moment. How often do you really though? How often are you teeing up or getting ready to chip or putt and your mind is stuck on the shot before or the one after? How often are you able to clear your mechanism? The only thing that should matter in the shot you are taking is that shot. Also, keeping in mind more than just the measurable aspects of the shot is vital. Your shot is more than the wind or distance and so forth, it’s also about how you’ve been hitting and how you feel. Be your own caddie in these situations.
