First African American on PGA Tour Dies at 92

Charlie Sifford, the first African American on the PGA Tour has died at the age of 92. Sifford challenged the white-only clause and the PGA tour rescinded it in 1961. He later won the Greater Hartford Open in 1967 and the Los Angeles Open in 1969. “His love of golf, despite many barriers in his path, strengthened him as he became a beacon for diversity in our game,” PGA of America president Derek Sprague told the Associated Press.
