Golf equipment truths: Does a club deteriorate over time? – Golf Digest

By on February 20, 2020

There is no evidence to suggest that clubs weaken over time. Of course, in the event that they aren’t properly taken care of there could be some weakening but nothing that would interfere with your skill level. Clubs are made out of iron and will last and last, unless, you leave it out in the rain for months and months. The wedges and grips are a different story. The grooves on both of those need to be replaced after some time. Professionals use their clubs on a regular basis and can go years without replacing anything, except the grips, the grips need to be replaced once per year.

Key Takeaways:

  • Most golf club equipment is very sturdy, made from strong materials, and able to last a lifetime.
  • While the sharpness of grooves and freshness of color will fade, the club utility remains.
  • Barring extreme circumstances or unforeseen damage, many clubs will last for many years.

“Deteriorate? Please tell me you’re not teeing it up regularly at Chernobyl Dunes Golf and Country Club.”
