If you strike the ball all over the face and want the widest margin for error without buying something that looks like a garden tool, this is the set. Srixon’s own workability rating is low, which is the honest trade-off: you are buying consistency, not shot shaping. TaylorMade have built each iron in the set to its own brief, so the long irons launch easily and the scoring clubs behave predictably. Strong lofts and a high, straight ball flight make this the set to pick if you want more yards from the same swing.

The 18.5° 4-iron tells you the intent. These lofts are strong even by modern game-improvement standards, and the reward is obvious carry distance. The catch is equally obvious: if you already struggle to stop a mid iron on a firm green, a stronger loft will not help.

Seven irons, 5 through sand wedge, for £289. A large sweet spot, back-and-heel weighting, and a deliberate offset draw bias make this the easiest set here to get airborne and on target.

Five ideas do most of the work in modern game improvement irons. Knowing what each one actually does makes the spec sheets far easier to read.
Thin Face Flexion
A thinner face flexes at impact and springs back, adding ball speed. Ping use a shallower face on the G440, Cobra a forged PWRSHELL insert on the RAD-S.
Low Centre of Gravity
Low, back-biased mass raises launch and steepens the descent angle, so the ball lands softer. This is what makes a long iron usable again.
Perimeter Weighting

Roughly 10 handicap and above, though strike quality matters more than your index.
Plenty of low single-figure players use forgiving cavity-back long irons and something compact in the scoring clubs. If your 5-iron and 6-iron are unreliable, game improvement irons will help regardless of what your card says.
Do I need a custom fitting or can I buy standard?
Standard works for many golfers, but a lie angle check is worth doing, no matter what you buy.
