Our Guide to the Rio 2016 Olympic Golf<\/h3>\n

This is an historic moment for golf, after 112 years it is now once again an Olympic Sport. Before that golf was only part of the programme at the Paris Games in 1900 and St Louis in 1904. This year in Rio both men and women will compete individually on the Olympic Golf Course for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

The Golf at this years Olympics tee’s off at 07.30am with the men’s Individual event on Thursday the 11th of August. There has been a lot of build up and speculation about athletes competing in this years Olympic games, but despite some of Golf’s biggest names, deciding upon themselves not to compete amid the Zika virus concerns, there is a whole host of top players from the PGA Tour and European Tour, who are ready to do there nation proud on the Golf Course.\u00a0The event will be played as Individual Stroke Play, over four rounds on the Olympic Golf Course, purpose built for Rio 2016. 41 Countries and 120 Athletes will compete in the 2 events.<\/p>\n

The Olympic Golf Course.<\/h3>\n

The 18 hole Olympic Golf course was landscaped as part of an environmental recovery project.The Olympic Committee has said that one of their goals for the Olympics was to create an environmentally sustainable Games. Gil Hanse was chosen out of 8 contenders to build the golf course, with his Hanse Golf Course Design team. The Olympic Golf course is situated in the\u00a0Reserva\u00a0de Marapendi in the Barra da Tijuca area of Rio. After the Olympic Games the golf course will be open to the public, which will help to develop and inspire the youth of Brazil to get into the game of golf. The course spans over 7,000 yards as a Par 71.<\/p>\n

The full list of tee times, for the men’s Individual event on Thursday the 11th August have been released, you can check them out here\u00a0from the European Tour. The Ladies individual event will begin on Wednesday the 17th August, Tee Times for Day 1 and 2 of the Ladies event are here.<\/p>\n
