Plain and simple. It is a gentleman&#8217;s (and lady&#8217;s) game. But despite the fact that the game is great, less people are watching, less new blood is coming in, and sales of golf equipment are still falling. Why? What problems do people have with the game that makes them not watch it? Golf stinks, which is a blog ironically about the love of golf and its frustrations, summed up the \u201cfan problem\u201d for golf.<\/p>\n<p>The number one complaint is that it is too slow. The world is flashy, colorful, and fast- and maybe a bit garish. Fans want something faster, and this is now a real issue with golf. In most sports you can pretty easily follow a specific player, with two teams you can always watch for your favorite. With golf, the sheer number of players in a tournament, it&#8217;s hard for a fan to follow a particular person- and that&#8217;s what people want. We&#8217;ve covered a related problem before- all the players tend to blend together. We, as a sport, need to find a way to have players with something that makes them stand out. McIlroy does it, but how many other names would your average sports fan have heard of?<\/p>\n<p>The problem with our great game is that it doesn&#8217;t like to change. It does, as seen with who is playing now who wasn&#8217;t allowed before, but in order to survive and thrive it needs to address the reasons fans tend to ignore it.
